NILD DISCOVERY PROGRAM
Portsmouth Christian School believes all students can be successful and is pleased to offer the services of the Discovery Program which is a subsidiary of the National Institute for Learning Development. This program benefits students who need extra help outside of regular classroom instruction. The mission of the Discovery Program is “building competence and confidence in struggling learners”. Their vision is to “develop independent learners”. Currently, PCS has three group therapy sessions for reading and math in grades 3-5. Each group has no more than 3 students and meets twice a week for 45 minutes. The fees for this therapy are in addition to regular tuition and are arranged through the Discovery Program.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY
Portsmouth Christian Schools is delighted to offer private speech therapy services from   Mrs. Dawn Kidd, MS, SLP. Mrs. Kidd comes to PCS at the beginning of the school year and does initial screening for students in grades PK through 5. She provides the results to the parents. If further evaluation or therapy is needed, parents will contact Mrs. Kidd to set up times and fees for these services.

VISION SCREENING
The Western Branch Lions Club offers a free vision screening for all K4 & K5 students at our school. The test consists of either or both of the following- instant photographs of your child’s eyes to determine the presence of eye disorders or the reading of an eye-chart and testing with a stereoscopic (“3D”) picture.  No physical contact is made with your child and eye drops are not necessary.

SAT PREP
Portsmouth Christian Schools offers SAT Prep class once in the fall and once in the spring. One Saturday is set aside and a brief, but comprehensive review of both English and math is presented.  Dates and more info is available as time draws near for testing.
