We the people of Biltmore Baptist Church, having recognized the great need of establishing a Christian day school in our community, desire to set forth a clear STATEMENT OF FAITH that will be the basis of our academic and behavioral standards and the manifestation of the spirit of this institution. The standards set forth in these articles shall be adhered to by the faculty, staff, and administration who will annually sign a statement that they are in accord with the principles outlined herein.
The STATEMENT OF FAITH is established in order that the students and their parents may clearly understand our theological position and know what we expect in moral conduct.
We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments. It is the only infallible, authoritative, eternal, immutable Word of God and the only complete and final revelation of the will and purpose of God.
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God who is an infinite, intelligent Spirit and the Creator and Supreme ruler of heaven and earth. He is eternally existent in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ who is God the Son, conceived by the Holy. Spirit of Mary, a virgin. He is the only begotten of the Father, the Son of God incarnate. We believe in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that every person born into this world is a child of Adam with a nature that possesses no spark of Divine Life but is essentially corrupt in body, mind, and spirit. Therefore, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for eternal salvation.
We believe that the grace of God is revealed in Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on the cross and that He arose bodily from among the dead according to the Scriptures. All who will rely upon Him and His finished work will obtain salvation and stand justified before God.
We believe in the personal pre-tribulation and pre-millennial return of Christ for His bride. The Church, made up of all who have been born again by the Holy Spirit to be raptured to meet their Lord in the air and return with Him to this earth to reign with Him.
We believe that civil government is ordered by God and that whosoever is lawless resists the ordinance of God. It is our conviction that magistrates should be prayed for, honored, and obeyed in the civil regulating of our lives that we might live a quiet, peaceable life.
DOCTRINAL CLARIFICATION: All families enrolling their children in Portsmouth Christian Schools should realize that in doctrine and philosophy we are Christian. Our affiliation and emphasis are Baptistic. We are non-Charismatic. We are Calvinistic in our view but not "sovereign grace" or "hyper-Calvinistic". We use the King James Version of the Bible but are not "extreme" in this view. We welcome all Christians who can be satisfied here without expecting to find their particular church distinctive taught in our school. We seek to maintain a loving warm attitude toward all the children of God.
